League of Legends level borders are cosmetic frames that surround your Summoner Icon and unlock automatically as your account reaches specific levels. There are currently 21 League of Legends level borders, beginning with Piltover at level 1 and ending with Eternus at level 500. Once you unlock a border, you can select it again at any time instead of being forced to use your highest-level option.
Riot has not added any new level borders, with Eternus remaining the highest available border at level 500. Your account can continue leveling beyond that, but you won’t get anything new. However, in the past, Riot has added some of the borders retroactively, and as the playerbase’s overall account levels rise, there’s a chance the devs will add more borders for levels 500+.

All League of Legends level borders and unlock levels
Level borders are similar to Ranked borders in League: both are decorations that surround your profile picture while in a lobby. Unlike ranked borders, you won’t have to reach a skill division to unlock any of the level borders.
There are currently a total of 21 level borders that players can unlock by playing League. Each border has a unique color scheme and is themed around a different region, religion, city, skin line, or culture from the world of Runeterra.

How to unlock level borders in League of Legends
League of Legends borders unlock through your account level. Playing games earns account XP, and reaching one of the levels in the table above automatically adds its corresponding border to your available profile customization options. You don’t need to complete any challenge or purchase the border.
Unlocks are slightly irregular at the beginning: you start with Piltover at level 1, Zaun unlocks at 30, Hextech at 50, and Fire at 75. From there, a new border unlocks every 25 levels until Eternus at 500.
How to change your League of Legends profile border
Unlocked League of Legends profile borders can be changed whenever you want, so reaching a higher level doesn’t permanently replace the older borders you’ve earned. It used to be like that in the past, but Riot specifically changed the system to let players freely select previously unlocked level borders.
To change your border:
- Open the League of Legends client.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Open Borders.
- Select any level border you’ve already unlocked.
The selected border is applied to your profile immediately, and you can switch back to an older design whenever you prefer it over your newest unlock. Event and Ranked borders are available to be selected in the very same menu.
