UK and US figures have marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks , emphasising transatlantic unity and shared democratic values.
Andy Burnham highlighted the solidarity between both nations, recalling messages of support sent by 9/11 victims' families to Greater Manchester following terrorist attacks in the region.
Sir Tony Blair described the 2001 attacks as a world-changing event and called for a recommitment to defeating terrorism while upholding the essential UK - US bond.
US Ambassador Warren Stephens praised the UK for standing alongside America during its darkest hour, noting that bilateral intelligence and military co-operation continue to save lives.
Services were held on both sides of the Atlantic to commemorate the nearly 3,000 people killed in the atrocities, including 67 British citizens.
