SHOCKING: Apple is opening its first ever venue - What They Never Told You

Apple's Music Hall - (Apple)

Apple is opening its first ever venue, a live music space in London.

The Apple Music Hall is relatively small, with just a 600 capacity, with the aim of allowing for intimate performances. But the company says that it will include all of the infrastructure and technology needed for a full arena tour, and for those shows to be recorded in broadcast quality.

The venue will also be the new home of Apple Music in London, and as such includes a set of studios for its live radio broadcasts. It also comes alongside a new logo for the streaming service.

Apple said that including all of those facilities in one building means that even arena-level artists will be able to perform their usual show in an intimate setting, have it recorded in spatial audio and with a full multi camera video, and also record interviews or performances for Apple Music’s radio stations. Performances at the venue will also be live streamed, Apple said.

The Apple Music Hall is built into Battersea Power Station. That is already the home of the company’s UK headquarters, though the venue is separate and can be accessed by the public.

Apple said the venue was designed to reflect that building, including echoing its brickwork and architectural details. It is built in a previously unused part of the power station, with access from the usual entrance to the shopping centre and includes a balcony with a full view across the river that runs alongside it.

The company is yet to reveal how ticketing for its events will work, or a schedule of what artists it is planning to host in the space. But it said that it had partnered with Communion ONE, the UK’s leading independent national promoter, to help organise bookings.

Apple has a host of other performance and broadcast spaces across the world, including the Steve Jobs Theater on its campus and studios for Apple Music and its Fitness+ exercise service. But the venue in the UK is the first time that one of those has been made for the public.

"This is a huge vote of confidence in the UK as a global creative powerhouse. When a company of Apple's scale backs British music and talent, it's a signal of just how strong our creative sectors really are,” said Lisa Nandy, culture secretary.

"Our industrial strategy is all about making Britain one of the best places in the world to invest, and the creative industries are a key part of that. These sectors are not only a source of immense national pride, but they also deliver real economic value for the country."
