A broken down lorry has caused traffic mayhem in Chepstow on Tuesday morning after reportedly trying to U-turn at a set of traffic lights. The lorry, which can be seen in a photograph taken by a motorist blocking the whole of the A48 in Chepstow town centre, brought cars to a standstill from 8am.
Newport Bus said several of its services in and around Chepstow had been “severely delayed” as a result of the incident. With the help of Gwent Police officers the lorry was moved before 9am and traffic began flowing again.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported at 8.30am that there were long queues around the town including at Highbeech Roundabout - typically a hotspot for rush hour traffic but today even more so.
One woman missed her grandad’s funeral due to the amount of traffic caused by the broken down vehicle. She said: “The stupidity of the driver has meant I will now not be going to my grandad’s funeral today because my dad couldn’t get to me to pick me up. I feel completely horrendous and will never be able to forgive myself for not going.”
Eyewitnesses said that the lorry driver had tried to U-turn at the lights before getting stuck. Gwent Police confirmed that no-one was injured as a result.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We received a report of a broken-down heavy goods vehicle in Station Road, Chepstow at around 7.55am on Tuesday 6 December. No injuries were reported."
