Geelong star Gryan Miers continues to work behind the scenes to ensure teammate Jake Kolodjashnij is not forgotten about in the concussion saga that threatens to end the defender's AFL career.
Kolodjashnij, 31, has not played at any level since the revelation he signed an agreement with the Cats to mitigate the club's exposure to future risk.
It was put in place after an ambiguous finding from the league's concussion panel in their assessment of Kolodjashnij.
Geelong were last month fined $140,000 by the AFL for failing to disclose the waiver.
Whether 209-game AFL veteran Kolodjashnij features again at senior level - or even in the reserves - remains to be seen.
Miers has gone in to bat for his 2022 premiership teammate in his role as an AFL Players Association delegate.
"The media was making it really kind of Geelong versus AFL and stuff like that, (but) I didn't want 'Kola' to be forgotten about throughout that whole process," Miers said.
"That it was his medical records that were kind of let out there ... he's the one that's kind of been punished in the situation.
"So that's been tough on him, and then I think we just want to support him as much as possible.
"That's what I've just tried to do throughout the process is make sure people are looking out for 'Kola'."
Miers said he has been speaking with the AFLPA about Kolodjashnij's situation throughout the process.
"They've done an amazing job for 'Kola' and always for the players, which has been awesome," Miers said.
"They've all really supported him, and I've just tried to keep them accountable on that, and that's what they've been doing the whole time.
"... I can't speak more highly of what they've done as well."
Geelong coach Chris Scott on Tuesday confirmed Kolodjashnij remains unavailable for selection at any level.
The Cats have an AFL semi-final against Fremantle on Friday night and a VFL preliminary final against Port Melbourne on Sunday.
"I'm sure if there was an update that I would've heard about it, but, as I've said quite regularly, I'm even further than arm's length away from the situation," Scott said.
"As soon as something changes around his availability I'm sure I will hear about it."
Kolodjashnij remains sidelined as the AFL prepares to usher in new limits on contact training in 2027 in a bid to reduce concussion and head trauma.
All clubs will be required to audit contact training in their men's and women's programs and provide training vision to the AFL on request as part of the new regulations.
