Shaun Maloney has confirmed Callum McGregor is back in training after illness.

The midfielder could provide Martin O’Neill’s team with a boost during the September schedule. Kieran Tierney and Kasper Hogh could also return this weekend, although neither is expected to play when Celtic face Aberdeen tomorrow.

Tierney went off during Saturday’s victory over Falkirk, while Hogh pulled up late in last week’s Champions League defeat to LASK. “We’ll struggle for tomorrow with both of them.

“We desperately hope they’ll be back for the weekend.”

Callum Osmand was injured against Falkirk and later pictured leaving Celtic Park on crutches, with his left foot in a boot.

Maloney confirmed the youngster will miss several weeks after a non-contact ankle injury, although the prognosis has improved. He said: “Osmand will be longer; that’ll be a few weeks.”

Celtic face six games in 18 days during September, including two derby meetings with Rangers, a rearranged trip to St Johnstone and the start of their Europa League campaign against Ferencvaros.
