• There were two errors in Weekend crossword No 807. Clue 9 across asked for the first name of “the bomb that killed thousands at Hiroshima, 1945”. The answer sought was Enola [Gay], but this was the name of the plane that dropped the bomb, which was codenamed “Little Boy”. Meanwhile, 6 down asked for the “site in Jerusalem also known as Calgary”; this should of course have said “Calvary” (27 June, Saturday magazine, p78).
• A review of The Uses of Utopia by Joad Raymond Wren said that the artist William Morris had described an elite “samurai” class in his novel News from Nowhere. In fact, this was from HG Wells’ A Modern Utopia (Heaven on Earth, 20 June, Saturday magazine, p52).
