HISTORICAL FACTS: Council to borrow up to 20m to fund new events centre - Caught on Camera

Sefton Council is applying for a £20m loan in order to pay for the new Marine Lake Events Centre.

The centre will reportedly cost in the region of £75m, with the council already receiving 37.5m from its town deal bid and a further £2.3m of funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The report and planning application which was published on the council website yesterday explains in detail how the MLEC will come together and be built.

It also confirms that the local authority is looking to borrow up to £20m, with a detailed financial forecast currently being drafted and will be presented to Sefton Council's Cabinet in September. Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and skills, said: “The submission of a full business case and the appointment of contractors and operators are the natural next steps in this fantastic one in a generational project.
