A group of Democratic Georgia state lawmakers have spoken out against what they describe as the 'excessive force used by Georgia State Patrol' during recent arrests at Emory University. The lawmakers expressed concern over the use of tactics such as tasers and gas, which they deemed as unnecessary escalation during what were reported as peaceful and nonviolent protests.
In a statement shared on social media, the lawmakers, led by Georgia state Rep. Ruwa Romman, criticized state leaders for creating an environment where law enforcement feels empowered to respond to peaceful protests with violence. They emphasized that regardless of one's stance on the issue at hand, there is no justification for the use of such extreme force.
