Derek Ferguson highlighted Cammy Devlin has his star man in Rangers' narrow victory over Aberdeen this afternoon.
The Ibrox outfit made the trip to Pittodrie in poor form without a win in the league while they suffered the humiliation of being knocked out of the Conference League in midweek. But Derek McInnes' side did what had to be done with a gritty win in the Granite City.
Gers had creativity up top with new signing Kim Min-Su showing glimpses of class. But it was in the midfield that Ferguson believes the game was won with former Hearts man Devlin putting in a strong showing.
The Australian hassled his opponents at every opportunity and broke up countless attacks. And for Ferguson it was a pivotal performance to the result.
"It feels like relief for all those Rangers fans who travelled up here today, I don't think most of them were looking forward to this fixture considering what happened on Thursday. The worst Rangers performance I've witnessed," he told BBC Sport.
"They came here and looked more like a Derek McInnes side. It was a shaky little start but then they got control of the game, had a threat. Gassama, Findlay Curtis, Min Su carrying that threat up front, running with the ball and without the ball. There was an energy and an appetite.
"That continued into the second-half and into the closing stages of the game Derek goes back to a back five to see the game out, makes a few subs but the one player for me, I thought wee Cammy Devlin was absolutely superb. Yeah he got his booking but the way he broke play up, controlled the game, the way he got about the players as well.
"He goes over and gives them a little gee up, telling off, I thought he had a terrific game in terms of how he got the players up for it. There was nothing like that the other night. And this is a difficult place to come however Aberdeen are playing.
"This is a fine victory and much needed. It's not papering over the cracks, there's still a lot of work to be done, Rangers are far from the finished article, there'll be more bodies coming in."
