Rangers manager Derek McInnes says the club will discuss the “best way forward” for John Souttar after a potential move away from Ibrox did not materialise.
Souttar was left out of Rangers’ pre-season trip while the defender considered his options, with McInnes having previously said there had been interest in the Scotland international.
Asked if the 29-year-old could now return to the squad, McInnes said the situation would need to be addressed following the close of the transfer window. He said: “No. For me, John was in a situation where there were a lot of things going on for him.

“It was made clear that it might be the best option for John to look for something. Now that that hasn’t materialised for him at the club, we need to address that and see what the best way forward is.
“I’ve got more views on that, but I’ll maybe speak about that a bit more tomorrow, sorry, at the beginning of next week, to be honest with you.”
McInnes said he would provide a further update on Souttar’s position at the start of next week.
