South Africa have defended a number of batting blunders against Australia that have left the Proteas at risk of a first home series loss in almost six years.
The home side were guilty of throwing away three of their four wickets on Thursday, as they went to stumps at 4-140 in their second innings with a lead of just 40.
Aiden Markram drove Mitchell Starc straight to mid-off in the third over, David Bedingham was out hooking and captain Temba Bavuma was bowled playing across the line late in the day.
