Aboubakr Jamai, Dean of the Donna Dillon Manning School of Global Affairs at the American College of the Mediterranean, said ahead of Morocco’s elections that decision-making in the country lies "with the royal cabinet" rather than Parliament.
Despite the results, Jamai predicts that Morocco “will continue producing new discontent”, arguing that the country’s economic growth figures “need to be put into perspective”.
Morocco, Jamai said, needs “at least 6% to 7% growth”, compared with the 4.9% growth recorded in 2025, according to the World Bank Group.
The expert also argues that the country relies on a trickle-down economic model that is not working. “You see this very shiny project, but it does not translate into money in people’s pockets or better jobs,” Jamai said.
