Flooding continues to affect six provinces in Thailand, with more than 73,000 people impacted, while some areas have begun recovery efforts as water levels recede, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).
Flooding continued in Nan, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Sakon Nakhon and Ubon Ratchathani, affecting 16 districts, 61 tambons and 363 villages as of Friday. A total of 23,823 households, or 73,797 people, have been affected.
Two flood-related deaths have been recorded in Nan province, one each in Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts.
Nan remains the hardest-hit province, with flooding reported in seven districts and affecting 21,050 households, or 66,097 people. Floodwaters previously inundated roads in some areas, disrupting travel, but water levels have begun to fall.
In Sukhothai, flooding persists in three districts, affecting 1,977 households and 5,259 people, while water levels have stabilised.
Water levels also remain steady in Phitsanulok, where 29 households have been affected and 34 residents from 19 households were evacuated to Chomphu Temple.
In Phetchabun, flooding in Lom Kao district has affected 45 households, while 657 households have been affected in Sawang Daen Din district of Sakon Nakhon.
In Ubon Ratchathani, river overflows have affected 65 households in three districts.
The DDPM said it was working with provincial authorities, local administrative bodies, volunteers, foundations and other agencies to assist residents through evacuations, water drainage operations and other relief measures.
In areas where floodwaters have receded, local officials have begun clearing mud and debris from homes, roads and public facilities to help residents return home as quickly as possible.
Pasak River warning
In a related development, the agency issued a cell broadcast alert for residents along the Pasak River in Phetchabun after water levels at the S.3 monitoring station in Lom Sak district reached 7.96 metres at 2pm, just 34 centimetres below the riverbank level.
It warned the river could overflow its banks later on Friday evening as water levels continue to rise.
Residents in Huai Rai, Sak Long, Wat Pa, Nong Khwai and Pak Duk tambons, as well as nearby areas, were advised to closely monitor the situation, move belongings and vehicles to higher ground, secure valuables, watch for electrical hazards and take special care of vulnerable people.
