How we ranked Genshin Impact characters

Genshin Impact allows you to clear most game content with any character, given that you have enough investment, patience, skill, and knowledge about your team to make the most out of the “worst” characters in the game. Don’t let tier lists change your perception of your favorite characters; they will be viable for most content no matter what.

This tier list has some unavoidable biases from the author, but many other things were considered. Viability on the most recent content, end-game modes, and HoYoverse’s inclination to buff certain mechanics at specific points in time were all taken into account in making this tier list.

For 5-stars, their strength is judged at Constellation 0. On the other hand, 4-stars are judged at Constellation 6.

S+ tier Genshin Impact characters

Citlali, Columbina, Ineffa, Lauma, Nicole, Odette, Sandrone, Yae Miko, Zibai

Citlali – Great Cryo shielding, additional DMG on her Burst, and enables Stellar-Conduct.
Columbina – Great support/sub-DPS unit, enables Lunar-Reactions for enemies that ask for it.
Ineffa – Lunar-Conduct, reliable Electro DPS unit.
Lauma – Good all-around Dendro unit that can fill the sub-DPS and support roles. Consider for Bloom-centric compositions.
Nicole – Amazing flexible support with shields and buffs.
Odette – Good off-field and sub-DPS unit, enables Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl.
Sandrone – Practically a cheat code for Stellar-Conduct teams.
Yae Miko – Recent buffs made her the best Electro unit for Stellar-Conduct teams.
Zibai – Enables Lunar-Crystallize as the on-field DPS. Great with Linnea.

S-tier Genshin Impact characters

Alyosha, Bennett, Chevreuse, Cryo Traveler, Cyno, Durin, Escoffier, Flins, Iansan, Linnea, Mavuika, Mona, Nefer, Prune, Qiqi, Sucrose, Varka, Wriothesley, Yumemizuki Mizuki

Alyosha – The dedicated healer and buffer for Stellar-Conduct teams.
Bennett – Still the best, most accessible 4-star all-around buffer and support.
Chevreuse – Great support and buffer for Overloaded teams.
Cryo Traveler – Alternative enabler of Stellar-Conduct and Stellar Swirl if you don’t have Odette.
Cyno – Thanks to recent buffs, he’s capable of dealing Stellar-Conduct DMG.
Durin – Off-field / quick swap damage dealer. Needs mastery, make sure you know what each of his forms do.
Escoffier – A great support for Cryo and Hydro teams and provides healing.
Flins – The best dedicated Lunar-Conduct team member.
Iansan – Has a unique buffing mechanic – can outperform other support unites, even 5-stars, if utilized correctly.
Linnea – Designed for Lunar-Crystallize and she’s great for it. Otherwise she may struggle to find a spot in other teams. Great with Zibai.
Mavuika – Great potential to do damage, but you need to build a team around her unique Burst charging mechanic and requires mastery to maximize.
Mona – Accessible Hydro unit and flexible between DPS and support. Requires investment to excel.
Nefer – Requires mastery, but is the best Lunar-Bloom unit in the game.
Prune – Dedicated niche support to Hexerei Anemo characters. Can be useful for other specific teams, but needs Hexerei units nonetheless.
Qiqi – Decent healer choice for Stellar-Conduct teams thanks to recent buffs.
Sucrose – Decent enemy grouping and EM buffs. Also a Hexerei unit.
Varka – Works amazing with other Hexerei units. Requires some mastery in utilizing his kit.
Wriothesley – A good alternative to Sandrone as the main on-field DPS for Stellar-Conduct teams.
Yumemizuki Mizuki – The unit to field for Stellar Swirl.

A-tier characters in Genshin Impact

Aino, Albedo, Faruzan, Furina, Lohen, Mualani, Nahida, Neuvillette, Ororon, Varesa, Venti, Xilonen

Aino – Off-field Hydro applicator and increases the party’s Moonsign for when you need a filler unit.
Albedo – Hexerei buffs made him more viable, now is a good off-field damage dealer.
Faruzan – Useful for Swirl/Stellar-Swirl teams, one of the few dedicated Anemo supports.
Furina – Still a good off-field damage dealer and buffer, but you need to play around her HP mechanics.
Lohen – Can be an on-field or off-field unit, this flexibility allows him to fit into more teams.
Mualani – Requires mastery of her kit, but can be a good Nightsoul main DPS.
Nahida – Dendro-reliant teams are not the strongest in the current Genshin Impact meta. Thus, Nahida’s usefulness is severely impacted.
Neuvillette – Can practically fit into any team on his own and is a decent damage dealer.
Ororon – Deals decent off-field damage, but Nightsoul-aligned damage isn’t requires in end-game modes.
Varesa – Like Ororon, Nightsoul damage just isn’t in demand. Nevertheless, she can deal a lot of damage and traverse the world fast.
Venti – Good grouping as a support, and can deal decent damage after Hexerei buffs.
Xilonen – Good choice for healer/buffer, especially with Mavuika and other Nightsoul units.

B-tier characters in Genshin Impact

Arlecchino, Chiori, Clorinde, Diona, Emilie, Jahoda, Kaedehara Kazuha, Kinich, Klee, Lyney, Navia, Nilou, Pyro Traveler, Shenhe, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Yelan, Zhongli

Arlecchino – Her Bond of Life simply takes too long to setup, severely affecting her DPS.
Chiori – Off-field Geo damage isn’t in demand, and if it is, Albedo is a better unit across the board.
Clorinde – Overshadowed by other Electro characters that can either apply Electro off-field or can enable Lunar- and Stellar-Conduct.
Diona – Overshadowed by other supportive Cryo units that can enable Stellar-Conduct.
Emilie – Her specialty, Burning, isn’t the best for killing enemies as fast as possible. Off-field Dendro DMG just isn’t in the meta, either.
Jahoda – Jack of all trades, like buffing, healing, and increasing Moonsign, but isn’t the best at any of these.
Kaedehara Kazuha – Can group, buff, and hold VV. There are other niche Anemo supports for certain team composition, but Kazuha remains a good flexible unit if you don’t have them.
Kinich – Like Emilie, he works best with Burning and it isn’t meta right now.
Klee – Now a more consistent on-field DPS after her Hexerei buffs, but isn’t superior to others by any means.
Lyney – Like Klee, a Pyro on-field DPS isn’t the best character to run in the current meta.
Navia – Relies on Crystallize and high-demand supports like Furina and Xilonen.
Nilou – The off-field Bloom support. However, Bloom isn’t meta.
Pyro Traveler – Off-field Pyro applicator and buffer – Pyro isn’t the best element right now.
Shenhe – Can be a good support for a Cryo-centric team.
Xiangling – Can apply Pyro off-field for when you need it.
Xingqiu – Can apply Hydro on-hit if you need it.
Yelan – Practically 5-star Xianqiu.
Zhongli – Great for when you need a massive shield. Mediocre for most other use cases.

C-tier Genshin Impact characters

Arataki Itto, Charlotte, Gaming, Hu Tao, Ifa, Jean, Kachina, Kamisato Ayaka, Kujou Sara, Kuki Shinobu, Lan Yan, Noelle, Raiden Shogun, Razor, Rosaria, Sangonomiya Kokomi, Wanderer, Xianyun, Xiao

These are all characters that the meta simply doesn’t favor. Pyro and Geo damage stocks are down with the presence of Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl. Electro and Cryo characters who can’t enable at least one of these newer reactions have no place in the current Genshin Impact.

D-tier Genshin Impact characters

Alhaitham, Baizhu, Candace, Chongyun, Collei, Dahlia, Dehya, Ganyu, Kaeya, Kirara, Layla, Lynette, Ningguang, Yanfei, Yoimiya

Dendro has it even worse. Burning and Bloom, even enhanced by Emilie and Nilou, pale in comparison to the newer reactions when it comes to end-game modes.

F-tier Genshin Impact characters

Aloy, Amber, Barbara, Childe, Dori, Elector Traveler, Eula, Freminet, Geo Traveler, Hydro Traveler, Kamisato Ayato, Kaveh, Keqing, Lisa, Mika, Sayu, Sethos, Shikanoin Heizou, Sigewinne, Thoma, Tighnari, Xinyan, Yun Jin

These characters are going to need some solid buffs to make it out of this category. Their numbers, capabilities, and speed simply doesn’t keep up with the rest of the roster.

Best DPS characters in Genshin Impact

Currently, Stellar-Conduct and Stellar-Swirl teams excel at clearing the most recent content. Sandrone is currently the number one unit to have for this.

Otherwise, Mavuika and Nefer are both able to dish out a lot of damage in a short amount of time, provided you learn their kits and build a team around them.

Best Support characters in Genshin Impact

The best Support characters right now are Odette and Columbina, by far. Both enable unique reactions and can also fill the role of sub-DPS. Other great, dedicated supports include Citlali, Lauma, and Nicole.

Best 4-star characters in Genshin Impact

You’ll never go wrong with investing on Bennett and Sucrose. If you’re not a new player, chances are you’ll have both of them at C6, placing them as one of the most flexible supports in your roster.
