Magic is very strong in Gothic Remake, especially early on in the game, where it can add a big boost to your firepower. This is why it's a good idea to complete The Price of Magic quest in the Old Camp. All you need to do is find a couple of items for the mage Torrez, and in return, he'll give you a valuable spell rune which lets you cast permanently so long as you have mana in the tank.
