Want to change the email address linked to your Aadhaar but do not want to visit an Aadhaar centre? There is an important 2026 update you should know about.
UIDAI has introduced a facility to update an email address through the Aadhaar mobile application, and the fee for this service has been waived from July 1 to December 31, 2026. UIDAI's official notification says the previously applicable ₹75 charge is waived during this period.
But there is one detail that can easily cause confusion: the Aadhaar app's general FAQ still lists email updates among services that were not yet available, while UIDAI has separately issued a June 2026 notification specifically waiving charges for email updates through the app. So users should rely on the latest version of the app and the service actually displayed in their account.
Start With The Official Aadhaar App

The first step is to install or update the official Aadhaar app on your smartphone. UIDAI says the app is available for both Android and iOS. The current UIDAI FAQ lists Android 9 or above and iOS 16 or above as the required operating systems. Make sure you are using the official application rather than an unofficial app claiming to provide Aadhaar services. Before starting, keep your Aadhaar number and access to your registered mobile connection ready. Also update the app if an older version is installed.

Never share an Aadhaar OTP, app PIN or authentication details with another person, even if someone claims to be helping you complete the update.
Find The Email Update Service
After signing in, open the Services section and check whether the email address update option is available on your version of the app. UIDAI's June 2026 office memorandum specifically confirms the launch of an email address update service through the Aadhaar mobile application and says the ₹75 charge is waived from July 1 through December 31, 2026. If you do not see the option, update the app and check again. Do not assume that every account or app version will display identical services at the same time.
Enter And Verify Your New Email
Enter the new email address exactly as you want it recorded. Check every character before continuing, especially dots, numbers and spelling. Check Whether The Email Is Updated

UIDAI confirms that email is among the demographic information that can be updated in Aadhaar, while its authentication guidance notes that registered email addresses can receive notifications related to Aadhaar authentication. If the update has not reflected yet, check the request status rather than submitting repeated requests immediately.
Why Updating Your Email Can Matter
A current email address can provide another communication channel for Aadhaar-related notifications. UIDAI says authentication notifications can be sent to the registered email address when it receives an OTP- or biometric-based authentication request against an Aadhaar number.
