FIRST Minister John Swinney will set out his legislative agenda for the next 12 months in the Scottish Parliament.

The Programme for Government is when the First Minister sets out what bills he hopes to bring to Holyrood over the next parliamentary year.

As this is the first Programme for Government after the May Holyrood election, we will also get some indication of longer-term commitments over the next five years.

And how the SNP Government will implement its manifesto pledges, like the price cap on essential foods.

How to watch

You can watch the Programme for Government on the Scottish Parliament's website after 2pm on Tuesday, September 1.

The First Minister's statement is set to come straight after backbencher FMQs, brought in by Presiding Officer Kenny Gibson following his election to the role.

After Swinney gives his statement, the chamber will then open up for a debate with MSPs from all parties.

There will also be debates on Wednesday and Thursday.
