IRN-BRU has issued a statement after it emerged that locals were reportedly trying to sneak cans of their drink onto the set of the new Batman movie being filmed in Glasgow.
It was reported on Monday that security on the set of Batman: Part II were having to sweep the film’s set on Bothwell Street every night due to cheeky locals trying to “sneak” cans of Irn-Bru into the film.
One viral tweet said cans of Scotland’s favourite soft drink kept “popping up in the bins and hot dog stands” across the street in a bid to get one into the background of “Gotham City,” according to the set's security.
Another person commented that it wasn’t just Irn-Bru cans that sneaky residents who had tried to get into the movie, but also a sticker of comedian Daft Limmy on the outside of one of the street's buildings.
The original post about the Irn-Bru can antics has been liked tens of thousands of times, with Barr, the producers of the soft drink, now releasing a statement, according to the Glasgow Times.
It read: “We’ve always had our suspicions that Bruce Wayne was made from girders.
“If he needs a can to keep him going while saving Gotham, Glasgow’s clearly got him covered. Just stick up the Bat signal, and we'll make sure there's some IRN-BRU for his utility belt.”
With the excitement of the film set on Bothwell Street attracting many locals, the film's producers, Warner Brothers, will be hoping to keep their set Irn-Bru free and not fall foul of the likes when a Starbucks cup appeared in frame of HBO’s Game of Thrones in 2019.
Although some Scots have joked that Irn-Bru might not be the only thing Glaswegians might try to sneak into the set, with some suggesting the iconic orange traffic cones could also be a likely contender.
One person wrote on social media: “The Irn-Bru cans are a decoy so that traffic cones can be placed on statues.”

It comes after Jeffrey Wright, who plays Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon in the franchise, shared a cryptic social media post that has led fans to believe he may soon be joining the production in Scotland.
The actor posted a photograph taken from a plane window alongside music from The Batman soundtrack.
He captioned the image: "The city’s down there … waiting."
Batman: Part II is set to be released in 2028 and stars Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Johansson.
Filming for the movie in Glasgow will continue over the next month.
