UNCOVERED: Is dying light 2 cross platform crossplay - The Untold Story

No, Dying Light 2 does not support full crossplay between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

The 2022 game unfortunately doesn’t support crossplay between platforms, but does allow cross-generation play. That means that Dying Light 2 players on PS5 can play with friends on PS4, Xbox One with Xbox Series X/S, and Steam with Epic Games Store players.

The future of crossplay doesn’t seem bright for Dying Light 2, despite player requests and developer comments haven’t sparked much confidence over the years.

Unfortunately, Dying Light 2 does not have crossplay across platforms.

The bright side is that the game does have generational crossplay, so Xbox Series S or X users may enjoy the game with the players using the previous generation of the console, Xbox One. The same goes for PlayStation. For PC users, the case is similar, with Windows, Mac and Linux available to enjoy Dying Light 2 together.

Does Dying Light 2 have crossplay between PC and Xbox?

No. Players on Xbox and PC cannot play Dying Light 2 together.

Unfortunately, the worlds of console and PC aren’t able to work together to survive the zombie apocalypse in Villedor. Only PC players are able to play with their fellow computer users and Xbox with their own, but sadly never together.

Does Dying Light 2 have crossplay between PC and PS5?

No. PC and PS5 players cannot join the same Dying Light 2 co-op session.

Just like with PC and Xbox, PlayStation players can only join their friends on the same console brand to drop into each other’s games and explore The City, but cannot play with friends on different consoles or on PC.

Does Dying Light 2 support PS4 and PS5 crossplay?

Yes, PS4 players and PS5 players can play Dying Light 2 together.

While the game doesn’t support crossplay between different consoles and PC, it does allow players on the same brand of consoles to play together between generations. Cross-gen is easier for developers to implement, which is why that’s all Dying Light 2 supports.

Does Dying Light 2 support Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S crossplay?

Yes, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S players can play together.

Just like with PlayStation consoles, players on different generations of consoles in the same brand are able to play together. The co-op experience can be a little limited, but at least players within the same console family can get busy taking down zombies.

Can Steam and Epic Games players play Dying Light 2 together?

Yes, players on Steam and Epic Games are able to play Dying Light 2 together.

Interestingly, this is the one exception to Dying Light 2’s general lack of crossplay capabilities. Players on PC using Steam and Epic Games can join a co-op world together, making a little bit easier for PC players to parkour their way across The City.

Setting up co-op on Dying Light 2 is simple, but it does have a few prerequisites to get started. Up to four players can join each other on a server, but each of them needs to finish the prologue before they can access co-op mode and join each other’s servers.

Once that prologue is finished and the player is in their first safe zone, the host can invite friends via the Online Menu. Select Online Options once on the character screen, and swap the game type from Single Player to either Public or Friends Only.

The Online Menu also has options for players to change their voice chat settings, create a Favorite Players list, and join other player’s open servers.

Since the game was released in 2022, crossplay between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms has not been added to Dying Light 2.

The director of Dying Light franchise at Techland, Tymon Smektała, said that cross-platform crossplay is still a possibility. “It’s still an option we’re considering yet all of it is a matter of managing priorities, resources and real value of various features. The dream is still there,” Smektała told mp1st in March 2024.

While it’s comforting for those who have their friends scattered across different consoles, we wouldn’t get your hopes up if we were you.
