Land Rover's Defender comes in some of the boldest colors on sale today, and now they are showing up on a guitar. PRS Guitars and John Mayer have built a run of Silver Sky guitars finished entirely in Defender paint codes.
The Silver Sky Defender Color Collection covers eight finishes split across two guitar lines, and only some of them are capped in number. Here is how the colors, hardware, and availability windows break down between the two ranges.

Eight PRS Silver Sky Finishes
The US-made Silver Sky gets four heritage Defender colors: Arles Blue, Willow Green, Portofino Red, and Sandglow Yellow. Each one ships with white pickguards and control knobs, plus a matching painted headstock.
PRS caps the US-made run at 500 guitars per color, 2,000 total across the four finishes. Each one comes in a hard case stamped with the Defender wordmark and a neck plate naming that specific color.
The SE Silver Sky takes the modern route with four contemporary Defender shades: Petra Copper, Sedona Red, Carpathian Grey, and Woolstone Green. Black pickguards and black control knobs mark a first for any Silver Sky model, according to PRS.
SE models are not capped on production numbers, but PRS is closing orders in mid-2027 regardless of how many sell. They come with a Defender-logo neck plate and a PRS/Defender gig bag instead of the hard case.
Classic Defender Colors
Mayer has owned a 1997 Arles Blue Defender 90 for years, and he has said the truck's color options pushed him toward this crossover in the first place. Arles Blue leads the US-made lineup as a result, tying the collection directly to his own garage.
Land Rover previewed the guitars before launch at its Destination Defender event in Temecula, California, held September 11 to 13, 2026. Owners at that gathering got a first look at the instruments alongside a lineup of drive experiences and a vehicle museum.
The eight finishes split cleanly by hardware: white pickguards and a hard case on the limited US-made guitars, black pickguards and a gig bag on the open-ended SE run. That distinction is the fastest way to tell the two ranges apart at a glance.
PRS is also building a small, non-commercial batch in British Racing Green. Those guitars will not go up for sale; PRS says they will support fundraising for the Defender Service Awards and Mayer's own veterans' health charity, The Heart and Armor Foundation.
