DARK SECRETS: Lindsay clancy jury deliberations end on day three without a verdict | Rare Historical Photos

  • Jurors in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial have been sent home without a verdict on the fourth day of deliberations, hours after telling the judge they have been unable to reach a unanimous decision on whether to hold the Massachusetts mother criminally responsible for killing her three young children at her home in 2023.
  • Deliberations will resume Wednesday after five weeks of testimony from more than 70 prosecution witnesses and 10 defense witnesses, which brought renewed national attention to maternal mental health after childbirth.
  • Clancy's defense attorney argues she is not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and had lost her grip on reality, noting she had previously sought psychiatric treatment.
  • Prosecutors contend that Clancy knew what she was doing and made a conscious choice to strangle her children before attempting suicide because she was depressed and tired of living.
  • The jury can find Clancy guilty of murder or manslaughter, or acquit her if they find she was not in control of herself due to mental illness, with potential outcomes ranging from life in prison to commitment in a psychiatric facility.
  • If you are experiencing feelings of distress, or are struggling to cope, you can speak to the Samaritans, in confidence, on 116 123 (UK and ROI) or visit the Samaritans website to find details of your nearest branch. If you are based in the USA, and you or someone you know needs mental health assistance right now, call or text 988, or visit 988lifeline.org to access online chat from the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. This is a free, confidential crisis hotline that is available to everyone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
