A MAN has been arrested and charged after a tenement in Glasgow was allegedly set on fire after it was recently renovated.
The blaze broke out in the building, which was in the later stages of being redeveloped into affordable housing, on Stonyhurst Street in Possilpark on Sunday at around 5pm.
At the height of the fire, six fire engines and specialist resources were sent to tackle the fire, with two remaining at the scene on Monday morning to dampen down the remaining hotspots.
Police confirmed on Monday they believed the fire had been wilful.
On Saturday, the force confirmed that a 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a wilful fire in Glasgow.
“The incident was reported to the emergency services around 4.50pm on Sunday, 6 September, at an empty building on Stoneyhurst Street.
“There were no reported injuries.
“The 48-year-old man is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, 14, September, 2026.”
