A man walking to a dentist appointment survived a lightning strike on Staten Island, New York.
Thomas Fahmy, a congressional staffer for US Representative Nicole Malliotakis, told WNBC that he was walking around 15 to 25 feet away from his car last Thursday (27 August) when he was struck and dropped to the ground.
Surveillance video shows the moment Mr Fahmy was struck, which he said felt like an "intense burning sensation."
"Tingling, numbness, pain, severe pain, in both my feet,” he added.
Mr Fahmy told the outlet he did not suffer any major injuries or visible burns, and was released from hospital after being monitored overnight.
Ms Malliotakis said: "We are happy, grateful and relieved that Thomas, a valued member of our Staten Island office, is alive and well after being struck by lightning last week. We appreciate the good samaritan and medical staff at Staten Island University Hospital who helped him get emergency care."
