The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has launched an investigation into Peter Mandelson concerning his period as the EU's trade commissioner.
OLAF confirmed the inquiry on Friday, following a request from the European Commission two months prior.
The Commission's request was prompted by new information emerging about Mandelson's ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
UK police are also investigating Mandelson's contact with Epstein, specifically regarding market-sensitive emails shared during his time as the UK's business secretary.
Documents from the Epstein files indicate Mandelson appeared to confirm a €500bn Euro bailout to Epstein before its public announcement.
