FAQs
Is McAfee free?
McAfee does not offer a free version, but you can get a 30-day free trial period on many of its plans, letting you use the service to see if its right for you before you commit to a plan. You'll have access to the full suite of features included in your chosen plan, and if you decide the plan isn't for you, just cancel 7 days before the trial period ends to avoid being charged or locked in to a plan.
How much is McAfee?
How much you'll pay for a McAfee plan will depend on the plan you're choosing, how long you're signing up for, whether you're a new customer, and any promotions that are currently active. Plans can start from as little as $29.99 per month (such as a year subscription to Total Protection Basic). Note that, like many cybersecurity brands, McAfee tends to offer first-year discounts when you first sign up, meaning prices tend to rise after your first year ends.
Does McAfee offer refunds?
Customers can get a full refund on annual McAfee subscriptions within 30 days of their purchase through the brand's 30-day money-back guarantee. However, monthly plans are not covered by, so you cannot get refunded if you choose a shorter plan. Its worth bearing this in mind when considering which tier is best for you.
McAfee Saving Tips
Look out for promotions
McAfee, like many cybersecurity brands, is no stranger to a sale. Catching a promotion can mean up to 70% off the usual price of selected plans, with the biggest events usually taking place around key holidays like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Labor Day. Here at TechRadar, we keep a close eye on the latest McAfee deals, updating this page accordingly. Make sure to visit every time you're after a saving to see the latest price drops.
Commit to longer plans
Although most McAfee plans are only available annually, some will give you the option to pay monthly instead. This might be enticing for the flexibility it offers, but if you do end up using the service for more than a few months or so, it generally works out much cheaper to choose an annual plan. Not only will you be covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee that doesn't apply to monthly plans, you'll also find prices can be up to 75% cheaper, especially when you first sign up. Just watch out for price increases after your first year ends.
Go all-in-one
If you're in the market for both antivirus and a VPN, you can opt for McAfee's all-in-one plans to save on the cost of buying plans for both separately. The cheapest tier - Essentials - can start from $39.99 for a year's membership, meaning you can stay protected and private for as little as $3.33 a month. You can also choose more advanced tiers for additional extras including identity protection and threat detection features.
Get a family plan
McAfee doesn't just sell individual plans - if you're looking to cover multiple users in the same household, you may be able to opt for one of the brand's family plans, which cover 6 users on one subscription and usually offers significant savings versus separate individual plans. For example, McAfee+ Premium is available on an annual individual plan for $149.99, or as little as $49.99 with promotions. The same plan for a family covering 6 users comes in at $169.99 (or $69.99 after promotions), meaning you can get 5 additional users for just $20 extra.

How we source coupon codes
Whether it's through our affiliate networks, the depths of the world wide web, or our connections with big name brands, here at TechRadar we use every tool at our disposal to source the latest codes. Our coupons team updates each of our pages multiple times a week with the most recent deals, including exclusive coupons negotiated by our Commercial team. We also include the latest sales info directly from retailers to offer the most up-to-date discounts around.
How we test coupon codes
Each coupon you find on TechRadar has been tested before being uploaded by our dedicated Deals & Offers teams. You’ll see a range of offers, from free shipping to student discounts, with savings available on all kinds of products & services. To make sure every coupon is ready to use, we don’t list any user-specific or one-time codes.
We also include all relevant information about coupons, such as expiry dates and any terms & conditions, near the ‘Get Code’ button. You can see the details for an individual offer by clicking on the ‘Terms & Conditions’ text below the code and expanding the code area.
What to do if a coupon code doesn’t work
Although we do our best to ensure all listed codes are tried & tested, sometimes coupons expire or terms & conditions are changed before we can update pages. Our team works hard to make sure our coupons are active and work as intended, and should you encounter an issue when using one, we’ll work just as hard to help.
The best place to start is by checking the requirements. Click “View terms and conditions” to expand the code section and see any guidance on your chosen coupon. For example, you may need to meet a minimum spend, add other items to your basket to qualify for a multibuy offer, or confirm that your chosen code applies to the items in your basket (i.e. 10% off laptops).
If you’re still having issues using your code, you can email our customer service team on coupons.techradar@futurenet.com. Include as many details as possible - such as which code you used and which coupon page it’s listed on so our team can address your issue as fast as possible.
How we make money
When it comes to coupons, TechRadar earns money via a commission-based model. For every brand we have a coupon page for, we’ve negotiated a deal that means we earn a percentage of total basket value in commission back from every order.
Using this model means we can offer our coupons to our customers free of charge. You won’t pay any fees to add your chosen coupon to your basket - you’ll simply pay the final order total once your discount has been applied.
