NAKHON RATCHASIMA - The body of a 39-year-old man reported missing since Sunday has been found floating in a pond near his home in Non Sung district of this northeastern province.
More than 50 relatives and neighbours from Taling Chan village in tambon Khrong Rue had been searching for Prawit Wuthayut, after his shoes were found on a village road and his motorcycle parked outside another resident’s house.
Search teams used drones and carried out ground searches for two days, focusing on areas where Prawit might have gone into hiding.
Relatives said he had once fled in a panic during an alcohol-induced hallucination, believing someone was trying to attack him.
At noon on Tuesday, local resident Manit Champajeen was clearing water spinach from a pond behind his house when he discovered Prawit’s body face-down the water, about 50 metres from where the shoes had been found. He alerted community leaders and the man’s relatives before officials were called in.
Rescue workers found no visible wounds on the body during an initial examination. The body has been sent to Khon Buri Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Relatives said Prawit was the fourth member of his family, including his father, to have died by drowning.
