KOLKATA: It took years for an Indian to break into the World Chess Championship (WCC) cycle after Viswanathan Anand. And when it happened, we saw three Grandmasters make the Candidates this time. But GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly feels that it was not something unusual, but rather the beginning of a new chess culture in India.
Ganguly, who was in Toronto as a second to GM Vidit Gujrathi, watched D Gukesh emerge as the challenger to World champion Ding Liren by winning the meet.
