Three months after suffering a terrifying stroke, Mix 106.3 radio star Nigel "Nige" Johnson will return to the Canberra airwaves on Monday.
From Monday, he'll be back behind the mic with breakfast co-host Kristen Davidson after 7.30am, "continuing his recovery and doing what he loves".
Nige will initially be broadcasting from home "with a goal to have him back behind the studio desk in early January".
The popular broadcaster has been recovering from the stroke he suffered at home in early June.
"I'm a million times better than I was and I'll be a million times better again in a month, I'm imagining," Nige said, on Thursday.
"I've been going for big walks every day, trying to keep my steps up.
"I did a full lap of Yerrabi [Pond] the other day, all by myself. That isn't much to the average person, but to me, after the condition I was in, it was a lot. I was very chuffed with myself."
Nige said he was looking forward to returning to work, initially for an hour a day from 7.30am.
He says it will be good to work from home, with a broadcasting equipment set up for him. There could be some unexpected benefits.
"Don't be fooled Canberra, there's a pretty good chance I'll be wearing duck pyjamas. Or maybe monkey pyjamas, you never know your luck," he said.
Nige spoke briefly about his diagnosis and recovery on Mix 106.3 in July but other than that has been focusing on his return to good health.
Kristen and Nige were also this week included in The Canberra Times' list of 100 influential Canberrans as part of the newspaper's 100th birthday celebrations - the milestone falling on Thursday, September 3.
