Despite having only a few properties in its line-up (in Ibiza, Kos, Andalusia and, now Bodrum), the Oku hotel brand has a recognisable signature aesthetic. It’s all about minimalist Mediterranean interiors and laidback luxury in buzzy Euro-summer destinations. This makes it the perfect match for Bodrum, which has plenty of uber-glitzy hotels but not so many quietly luxurious spots.
Oku Bodrum comprises 58 rooms and suites set across a hilly stretch of the north coast of the Bodrum peninsula. It is not exactly a deserted cove but the views are magical, especially around sunset, and there’s direct sea access for crystalline swims.
The Rooms
Beige-washed walls, hessian drapes, woven rugs, stone floors: the decor doesn’t stray from Oku’s simple yet effective mood. It works well in the setting, and ‘cosy’ entry-level rooms are sparse but well-designed, soothing spaces that feature everything you need for a comfortable few nights. Some of the larger accommodation options have their own private or shared pools, but all benefit from balconies and views of the glimmering Aegean.
The Food & Drinks
To Kima, the hotel’s all-day, poolside restaurant, is a clear highlight. Breakfast is a treat; a bountiful buffet serves homemade granola, fresh fruit and Turkish specialities like freshly made sesame seed-topped Simit, while a la carte options include dishes like menemen and çılbır.
It’s a great lunch spot too, where mezze-inspired dips and Greek salad combine well with Asian-infused flavours in the form of bao buns and sandos. There are also decent crowd pleasers (pizzas, club sandwiches) to keep everyone happy. The hotel’s more elevated restaurant, Teyo, blends Japanese and South American flavours, while the Round Bar is the place to head for sundowners and cocktails.
The Extras
The sprawling sea-facing gym and spa are excellent. At the latter, you can enjoy a hammam, sauna and steam room, which feel like the most authentically Turkish areas of the hotel. Two treatment rooms host dreamy massages that will have you flopping down on the seafront sun loungers with a renewed sense of calm.
