The arts minister, Tony Burke, has said he contacted the chief executive of Creative Australia before a board meeting at which the body decided to withdraw its selection of Khaled Sabsabi for the 61st Venice Biennale.

Speaking on ABC’s 7.30 on Monday, Burke said he had contacted Creative Australia’s chief executive, Adrian Collette, immediately after question time on Thursday.
