Jurkovec is making a midseason position switch from quarterback to tight end, according to a Thursday evening report from Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Per Hiles, Jurkovec informed teammates of the change Wednesday morning and began running routes with the other tight ends a day later.

In five games under center this season, Jurkovec has completed 50.9 percent of his passes for 818 yards with six touchdown passes and three interceptions. Pitt is 1-4 with losses to Cincinnati, West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech; Louisville, Notre Dame, Florida State and Duke still loom on the schedule.

This is Jurkovec’s sixth collegiate season, following two years with the Fighting Irish and a three-year stint at Boston College.

The Panthers are scheduled are scheduled to play host to the Cardinals the evening of Oct. 14 following a bye week.
