A fire involving 50 tonnes of household waste at a recycling facility in south-east London has been brought under control.
Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters responded to the blaze on Landmann Way, in Deptford, on Tuesday night, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
The facility was “severely damaged” by the fire, the brigade said.
The force was first called just before 8pm, and crews from East Greenwich, Old Kent Road, Deptford and surrounding fire stations went to the scene.
LFB confirmed the fire was brought under control just after 2am on Wednesday, with crews remaining on scene to extinguish pockets of fire.
Speaking from the scene, Station Commander Duncan Rees said: “Crews worked hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.
“One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders and a 64m ladder were both used as water towers to tackle the flames from above.
“Whilst the fire is under control, crews will remain on scene into the morning and afternoon as they work to extinguish the remaining pockets of fire.”
Rail services into London Bridge from New Cross were closed as firefighters tackled the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
