DARK SECRETS: Residents evacuated as fire engulfs hunter valley property | Rare Historical Photos

Firefighters remain on scene of a fire that has gutted a Hunter property.

The first calls to Triple Zero raising the alarm came in around 10.50am on Thursday September 3, NSW Fire and Rescue spokesman Peter Murray said.

Five trucks were dispatched to the Macqueen Street scene at Aberdeen.

On arrival, firefighters said they found an industrial building well alight.

Crews remained on the scene into the afternoon, calling in an excavator just before 2pm to begin dismantling the damaged shell of the building and access the seat of the fire, Acting Superintendent Murray said.

An adjoining building and structures to the rear of the blaze had sustained some damage as the fire spread, he said, but there remained no reports of injuries.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said the service was aware of the incident.

Acting Superintendent Murray said about 11.45am that crews from both the NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service were working to contain the fire and prevent its spread to surrounding buildings.

Police were on the scene near the Bedford Street intersection, assisting with traffic control.

A spokeswoman said officers had evacuated surrounding buildings as a precaution as firefighters continued their work.

The details of this report are developing. It may be updated.
