MYSTERIOUS: Saudi arabia considers merging ea with savvy games group - What They Never Told You

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is considering merging Electronic Arts with Savvy Games Group, potentially bringing franchises including EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, Battlefield, The Sims, Pokémon Go, and Monopoly Go under one gaming company. Bloomberg reported on Sept. 10 that PIF executives are weighing the combination as a way to coordinate their growing collection of gaming assets more closely.

No final decision has been made, people familiar with the discussions told Bloomberg, and a merger is unlikely before Savvy completes its $6 billion acquisition of Moonton, the ByteDance-owned developer behind Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Any combination of EA and Savvy would also reportedly face regulatory review given the size of the businesses involved.

EA became a private company on Aug. 4, when a consortium of PIF, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners completed its $55 billion acquisition. EA shareholders received $210 per share, while the company was delisted from Nasdaq and continued under CEO Andrew Wilson. PIF had already owned 9.9 percent of EA before the takeover and rolled that stake into the transaction.

Savvy Games Group, on the other hand, was created by PIF in 2021 as the main vehicle for Saudi Arabia’s gaming and esports investments, with the company forming part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 push to diversify the Saudi economy. Savvy was initially given a $38 billion investment strategy and quickly bought ESL and FACEIT, combining them into ESL FACEIT Group.

Savvy paid $4.9 billion for Scopely in 2023, acquiring the company behind games like Monopoly Go!, Stumble Guys, and Star Trek Fleet Command. Scopely then spent another $3.5 billion in 2025 to acquire Niantic’s games business, which included Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now, along with all their development teams and related services.

As Bloomberg stated, PIF has made no final decision on the merger that would bring EA’s console and PC-heavy portfolio and Savvy’s mobile and esports products under one brand.
