Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas expressed his gratitude for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle's service following her resignation. Mayorkas stated that Cheatle is highly respected by her colleagues within the agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

Cheatle's resignation came in the wake of mounting pressure from lawmakers calling for her to step down due to concerns over the Secret Service's handling of the recent Trump assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
