ONE motorbike rider is dead and another is in a critical condition after a ute towing a horse float flipped and rolled outside Booral on Sunday morning.
Police and paramedics said they were called to The Bucketts Way about 10.20am after reports of a crash.
Police confirmed on Sunday afternoon that a ute pulling a horse float had flipped and rolled, crashing into two motorcycles.
One rider - a man aged in his 30s - died at the scene.
The other rider - a man in his 70s - was treated at the scene for serious leg injuries before being flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The driver of the utility - an 18-year-old woman - was assessed at the scene by paramedics, but did not required further treatment, police said.
She was taken to Stroud police station for a breath analysis after allegedly testing positive to a roadside breath test at the scene.
The horse in the float was uninjured, police said.
A NSW Ambulance spokseperson said paramedics had poured resources into the area, with 10 ambulances and the Westpac rescue helicopter attending the scene.
A Westpac spokesman said paramedics and the rescue helicopter's critical care medical team had treated the man, aged in his 70s, for serious leg injuries.
He was flown to hospital in a critical condition.
The crash forced the closure of the road for several hours.
Traffic was banked up along The Bucketts Way and the Booral Rural Fire Brigrade said the road would be closed in both directions from Gunns Gully Road to Lemongrove Road at Booral.
"It will be shut for sometime," the rural fire brigade said.
"Please be respectful of emergency volunteers who are asking people to turn around."
Police have established a crime scene and an investigation into the cause of the crash has commenced.
