Roguelite games have amassed a loyal following through the years, and if you happen to be one of the genre's fans looking for a new game to play, well, one is about to release very soon.
Here's what you should know about "Serious Sam: Shatterverse" before its release.
'Serious Sam: Shatterverse'
"Serious Sam: Shatterverse" is a new entry in the long-running "Serious Sam" franchise. The story follows Serious Sam and alternate versions of him from different universes after Uber Mental fractures reality, forcing the Sams to work together to repair the Shatterverse.
According to Devolver Digital, the game is the 20th title in the series, which was created by Croteam in 2001.
The Sams join the Serious Program, a multidimensional force fighting Uber Mental and his armies across different realities. Their goal is to defeat Mental's five lieutenants and prevent him from destroying the remaining universes. Croteam remains the creator of the "Serious Sam" franchise, while Behaviour Interactive serves as the developer and Devolver Digital as the publisher.
Unlike "Serious Sam 3: BFE" and "Serious Sam 4," "Shatterverse" has not been officially described as a prequel to another "Serious Sam" game. It is instead presented as a new chapter that explores alternate versions of Sam across multiple universes. Devolver Digital and Croteam's announcement describes it as Behaviour Interactive's own interpretation of the franchise rather than another prequel in the main timeline.
Release Date and Platforms
"Serious Sam: Shatterverse" is scheduled to be released on August 31, 2026.
The game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The PC version will be available through Steam and the Microsoft Store.

According to the Steam listing for "Serious Sam: Shatterverse," the following are its minimum system requirements in order to run the game:

Gameplay
"Serious Sam: Shatterverse" is a first-person roguelite shooter built around fast-paced, run-and-gun combat. According to the Steam listing, players fight through shifting universes using classic weapons and new firearms while facing large hordes of enemies. Each run features changing environments, unstable anomalies, and high-risk encounters that can provide rewards or end a run.
The game supports solo play and online co-op for up to five players. Players can collect boons, unlock upgrades, and use run modifiers that change how each run plays out, while progression carries over between runs. Behaviour Interactive's official Steam FAQ says a full run lasts about 45 minutes and includes three biomes, with each biome ending in a boss battle.
Editions and Pricing
The game will only have one standard edition. An official price has not been released by the developer as of press time.
