Infrastructure company SPML Infra Ltd on Friday said its proprietary 104.4 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) battery pack has completed key international safety, performance and transportation certification and testing requirements, marking a step towards commercial deployment.
The battery pack, developed under the company's own intellectual property, has completed the necessary requirements for that, the city-based company said in a statement.
The certifications and tests cover areas including thermal runaway safety, battery performance, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety, the company said.
SPML Infra is developing BESS manufacturing and integration capabilities in Pune, Maharashtra, covering battery pack assembly, engineering, system integration and large-scale project execution.
"The validation of our proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack represents an important milestone in SPML Infra's energy storage journey," Managing Director Abhinandan Sethi said.
The company aims to build an integrated Indian energy storage platform covering proprietary product development, manufacturing, system integration and large-scale project execution, he said.
SPML Infra said the successful completion of certification and testing marks another step towards commercialisation of its BESS technology and manufacturing platform.
The company views energy storage as a strategic extension of its power infrastructure capabilities, with demand expected to rise alongside renewable energy deployment for applications such as renewable integration, grid balancing, peak-load management and grid reliability.
SPML Infra said it will continue to expand its energy storage technology portfolio to address the requirements of India's utility-scale BESS market.
