FORGOTTEN HISTORY: Thameslink to replace notorious train seats after commuter complaints - Caught on Camera

  • More than 60,000 uncomfortable "ironing board" seats across 115 Thameslink trains are set to be replaced with comfier alternatives.
  • Transport secretary Heidi Alexander announced the seating upgrades as part of ongoing government rail reforms and public ownership.
  • The rollout for the upgraded standard and first-class seating cushions is scheduled to take place over two years starting in 2027.
  • Seat back tables will also be installed on 70 Thameslink trains that currently do not have them.
  • Govia Thameslink Railway transferred into public control in May, enabling the implementation of passenger-requested service improvements.
