In a new post, President Donald Trump used an apparently AI-generated image to falsely portray Robert De Niro — long one of his sharpest critics — as a supporter.
The image, one of dozens shared by the Republican president on Truth Social on Sunday, shows the 83-year-old A-list actor holding up a red shirt that reads: “TRUMP IS MY PRESIDENT.”
Trump captioned the post: “Even this jerk is beginning to get it,” suggesting De Niro has had a change of heart.
De Niro, whose film credits include Taxi Driver, Goodfellas and Raging Bull, has established himself as one of the president’s most outspoken and persistent detractors in Hollywood.
In 2016, ahead of the presidential election, the Manhattan-born actor called Trump a “pig,” a “punk” and a “bulls*** artist.” Three years later, he described the president as “evil,” adding: “I can’t wait to see him in jail.”
“I don't even use the word ‘hope’ anymore with [Trump's] administration. They have to be gotten out,” De Niro told USA Today last month. “He's just going to destroy not only the country, but other parts of the world. It's insane. That's a big concern of mine, and I think a lot of people now.”
Trump has lobbed his own share of harsh words at De Niro over the years.
“I never knew how small, both mentally and physically, Wacko Former Actor Robert De Niro was,” the president wrote on Truth Social in 2024. In a separate post that year, he wrote: “Robert DeNiro has a terminal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. Such a stupid sounding guy, a low IQ individual!”

The 80-year-old president has also feuded publicly with a string of other Hollywood stars across his two terms, including Rosie O’Donnell, Alec Baldwin, Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep.
He has also previously used AI-generated content to mock celebrities who have criticized him.
In July, for instance, he posted a video to X depicting himself as a doctor who had successfully treated De Niro, Rosie O’Donnell and others for “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
