US President Donald Trump stepped up his rhetoric over the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, using a series of Truth Social posts to assert US control over the strategic waterway and rule out any immediate talks with Iran.

His posts drew a sharp response from Tehran, with an Iranian deputy foreign minister warning that Trump’s claims about the strait would be “corrected”.

Trump first shared an image on Truth Social showing a map of the Strait of Hormuz under the banner “NEW US Territory”, appearing to reinforce his recent remarks that he wanted the waterway formally declared US territory.
