HISTORICAL FACTS: Uber technologies stock is uber underperforming the technology sector - The Untold Story

With a market cap of $154.5 billion, Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER) is a global technology company that provides a platform for transportation, delivery, and logistics services. The company’s offerings span Mobility, Delivery, and Freight, providing transportation, food and retail ordering, and logistics solutions through its digital marketplace.

Companies valued at $10 billion or more are generally considered “large-cap” stocks, and Uber Technologies fits this criterion perfectly, exceeding the mark. Uber continues to expand its ecosystem by integrating financial partnerships, advertising services, and white-label delivery solutions.

Shares of the San Francisco, California-based company have dipped 26.2% from its 52-week high of $101.99. Over the past three months, shares of Uber Technologies have risen 3.1%, outpacing the State Street SPDR NYSE Technology ETF’s (XNTK) 6.9% decline during the same period.

UBER stock has declined nearly 7% on a YTD basis, underperforming XNTK’s 26.4% return. In the longer term, shares of the company have dropped 18.9% over the past 52 weeks, compared to XNTK's 45.3% return over the same time frame.

UBER stock has been trading below its 200-day moving average since October last year.

Uber Technologies shares fell 5.3% on Aug. 5 after the company forecast Q3 adjusted EPS of $0.84 - $0.88, below analysts’ estimate. The company also plans to spend more than $10 billion on robotaxis over the coming years, adding significant investment commitments alongside its $14.8 billion Delivery Hero takeover. Although Q2 2026 gross bookings rose 24% to $58.02 billion, beating the estimate, revenue increased 12% to $14.19 billion and missed the estimate, adding to concerns.

In comparison, rival Salesforce, Inc. (CRM) has performed better than UBER stock. CRM stock has decreased 1.3% on a YTD basis and gained 2% over the past 52 weeks.

Despite Uber Technologies’ weak performance, analysts are bullish about its prospects. The stock has a consensus rating of “Strong Buy” from the 46 analysts covering it, and the mean price target of $103.60 represents a premium of 37.6% to current levels.
