Three of the UK's four Vanguard-class nuclear deterrent submarines are at sea simultaneously, with at least one carrying nuclear-armed Trident II D5 ballistic missiles, Sky News reported.
The deployment brings three-quarters of the fleet to sea, an unusual overlap whose purpose remains unclear. According to Sky News' 27 October 2026 report, at least one submarine was conducting a routine deterrent patrol.
