The Middle East remains on edge on Wednesday as the United States and Iran trade fresh attacks overnight strikes. The US launched strikes on Iranian targets, describing them as a response to Tehran’s attempt to target a US warship with ballistic missiles, and Iran hit back by attacking 20 vessels, including two American ships.

Iran, meanwhile, fired a barrage of missiles at US military positions in Jordan in direct retaliation for attacks on Iranian oil tankers near Kharg Island and the port of Jask.
However, Jordan said it successfully intercepted 18 of the 20 missiles launched by Iran.

CENTCOM destroys five Iranian crude oil carriers; Iran strikes back
US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations in the Middle East, struck and destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers on Tuesday, following attacks targeting a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles over the past two days.
Four of the vessels were struck in the Gulf of Oman and were identified by CENTCOM as M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1 and M/T Riesco. The fifth tanker was hit near the oil-rich Kharg Island.
