KOLKATA: A 209-run unbroken third-wicket stand between Sudip Gharami and Anushtup Majumder saw Bengal crush Gujarat by eight wickets in Rajkot on Saturday and make the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy meet. While skipper Gharami stayed undefeated on 117, veteran Majumder was unbeaten on 102.
Bengal bowlers could not take advantage of early morning conditions after Gharami won the toss and put the rivals into bat first. A century by opener Priyank Panchal and late flourish by Umang Kumar helped Gujarat put up 283 for nine in their 50 overs. Bengal lost opener Shakir Gandhi in the first over but Gharami and Abhishek Porel steadied things with a 76-run stand before Abhishek departed for 47.
