A Swedish suspect wanted for alleged attempted murder, extortion and arson in Sweden was arrested at a condominium in Bangkok on Sunday.
Identified by police only as Kevin, his arrest followed information from Swedish police that the suspect had fled to Thailand.
Mr Kevin entered Thailand on May 17 this year on visa exemption. He requested an extension of stay at Surat Thani Immigration, and was allowed only until Aug 14. He had overstayed.
Police said Mr Kevin changed his address often, remaining mostly on Koh Samui. He had been helped by a Swedish friend in Thailand, identified as Alex, whom police said also had a criminal record in Sweden.
Police learned that the two had moved to the Phra Ram 9 area in Bangkok.
Mr Kevin was arrested in a condo room and admitted to being the wanted man, police said.
His friend Alex, who stayed in the same room, was found to have overstayed his visa for 195 days, police said.
Police seized three mobile phones and three debit cards found in the room.
Once Thai police finish legal processing the men will be deported to Sweden, police added.
