Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is Invoke Studios’ upcoming single-player action RPG set in Ravenloft’s gothic realm of Darkon. You play as Kaatri, a weapons master who forms a pact with the witch queen Tasha to gain warlock powers and hunt for a lost loved one.
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons release date and platforms
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is targeting a 2027 release across current-gen consoles including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. At the time of writing, there’s no exact date or month announced. But I will update this section as soon as there’s an official announcement.
The game was first revealed in late 2025, followed by a gameplay showcase at Gamescom 2026’s Opening Night Live on Aug. 25, 2026. We got to see extended footage, giving us the first real look at combat, exploration, and Kaatri’s powers.
What kind of game is Warlock?
Warlock is a single-player open-world action-adventure RPG played from a third-person perspective and built around exploration, spell-based combat, and player choice.
Unlike Baldur’s Gate 3, there won’t be any dice rolls, character creation, or a party to queue up with. You always play as Kaatri. There are no traditional D&D mechanics; instead, abilities run on cooldowns and resource systems designed for an action game.
The single-player action RPG takes place in Darkon, one of the Domains of Dread in the Ravenloft campaign setting. It’s a gothic realm ruled by the lich Azalin Rex, whose disappearance has caused the domain to destabilize and crumble into the mists. Invoke Studios heavily emphasizes player agency. Many obstacles can be solved with brute force, magic, or creative combinations of both.
Warlock gameplay details
Warlock’s core loop revolves around exploring Darkon, collecting Raw Magic, and using it to unlock and upgrade spells that double as both combat tools and traversal keys. Raw Magic is a hidden resource scattered across the world. Absorbing it lets Kaatri expand and transform her magical abilities. Instead of spell slots, you’ll manage cooldowns and possibly other action-game resources, keeping the flow fast and combat-focused.
The system is designed so that every spell can be used in multiple ways, both in fights and in the environment. Darkon’s map is intentionally limited to push players toward organic exploration. You’ll encounter populated settlements where you can upgrade weapons, talk to NPCs, and pick up new quests.
Some areas are gated behind abilities. For example, Kaatri can transform into a raven to slip through small openings and reach lower sections of the map that would otherwise be inaccessible. Spells like Levitate, Gust of Wind, and Black Tentacles can be repurposed for platforming and puzzle-solving, not just damage.
What to expect at launch
At launch, you can expect a single-player, story-driven campaign following Kaatri’s search for her lost loved one in a collapsing Darkon. An open world with settlements, dungeons, and hidden areas tied to spell-gated traversal. A spell-centric combat system with cooldowns, dual-use abilities, and ritual interactions. Player choice in how to approach obstacles, fights, and exploration, without branching into full RPG-style dialogue trees like Baldur’s Gate 3.
What remains unconfirmed is its exact release date within 2027, specific magic cost mechanics and how they affect gameplay and story. The length of the campaign is also yet to be revealed by the devs, alongside side content scope, and post-launch plans.
