Two Russian fighter jets dangerously intercepted an RAF Rivet Joint spy plane over the Black Sea, flying within six metres and disabling its autopilot.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that one Russian jet made six passes in front of the unarmed British reconnaissance aircraft during the incident.
Defence Secretary John Healey condemned the event as 'dangerous and unacceptable behaviour' by Russian pilots in international airspace.
Healey praised the RAF crew's professionalism and affirmed that the incident would not deter the UK's commitment to NATO and its allies.
This confrontation is considered one of the most serious between Russian jets and British Rivet Joint aircraft since a missile was fired in 2022.
