Manchester United winger Amad Diallo was nowhere to be seen when the squad arrived for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Hull City.
The 24-year-old was a regular for manager Michael Carrick in preseason, making four appearances, and so it was a surprise to see him left out completely for the trip to Hull.
In his place comes Bryan Mbeumo, who joins Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu in United’s forward line. Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Šeško and Joshua Zirkzee begin the game on the bench.

Why Is Amad Diallo Not Playing for Man Utd?
As Carrick gave his update on the squad before the match on Friday, there was no mention of a possible injury to Amad.
However, Rob Dawson revealed on Saturday that Amad misses out on a spot in the squad due to injury. It was later described as a “niggle,” with hope that Amad’s problem is not particularly serious.
He is one of four players to miss out. Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton and center back Matthijs de Ligt are both unavailable, while midfielder Mason Mount has failed a late fitness test after picking up a knock in preseason.
Carrick had insisted Mount had a genuine chance at featuring on Saturday, describing his involvement as “touch and go,” but evidently the 27-year-old was not deemed fit enough to feature.
With Mount’s knock not believed to be particularly serious, Carrick will now be expecting him back in action on Sunday, Aug. 30, when Ipswich Town visit Old Trafford.
De Ligt, meanwhile, is back in training after a back injury sidelined him all the way back in December. His issue was not initially believed to be serious but soon developed into a long-term problem, but Carrick is hopeful of being able to call on the Dutchman for the first time in his reign in the near future.
